Following this week’s prompt from 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks by Amy Johnson Crow, we explore large families.

My great-great grandparents Joseph Emil Stitz and Elisabeth Knöpfel were born in Germany where they married 08 Jan 1902.

In 1903 they traveled from Belgium on a ship named Zeeland and headed for New York in hopes of starting a new life in America.

Once they arrived they settled in North Bergen, New Jersey where Joseph worked as a butcher for over 50 years.
Ten years after arriving in the united states, Joseph became a citizen.

Joseph and Elisabeth had six children and 14 grandchildren.
